Tattoo After Care Instructions
The healing process takes 10-14 days and can vary from person to person. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the shop or your artist if you have any questions.
What to do:
· Remove bandage after 2 hours (If you are wearing second skin, keep it on for 1-3 days).
· Wash it gently but thoroughly with a mild unscented soap and cool water.
· With clean hands apply a small amount of unscented lotion 3-5 times a day.
· After the tattoo is healed, there will be a period of adjustment for the new skin so it’s advisable to continue applying lotion.
· You may notice some redness, tenderness, swelling, or bruising. This is to be expected but should not last more than a few days.
· We have tattoo aftercare kits available for purchase at the shop. They contain these instructions, one bottle of liquid anti-bacterial soap, and one bottle of plain white lotion.
What not to do:
· Do not re-bandage, rub, scratch, or pick at your new tattoo.
· Do not apply alcohol, Neosporin, Vaseline, or any petroleum based products. They can delay healing and trap dirt and bacteria, which can lead to infection.
· Do not apply a heavy coat of lotion, remember that your skin must breathe to heal properly.
· If you have pets, make sure to wear clean protective clothing to avoid direct contact of the tattoo with the pet or pet dander.
· Do not expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, and steam for 2 weeks. The sun, salt water, and chlorine act as bleaching agents and can ruin the tattoo. Remember that you have an open wound on your body so please treat it like so.
